丝瓜筋是一种纤维状、圆柱形植物产品，常常在洗澡间被当作粗海绵或软刷子用。它是一种植物果实的干枯内瓤，植物学家称这种植物为丝瓜。这种热带攀缘藤本植物还有两个略欠高贵但却更形象的名称，即抹布瓜和植物葫芦。
丝瓜属葫芦科植物，这一大科植物有个品种，其中有黄瓜、西瓜和南瓜。尽管丝瓜味道不好闻，但是，埃及（Egypt,丝瓜的拉丁名称luffaaegyptiaca的第二部分即来源于此）、阿拉伯半岛、印度和中国都种植丝瓜。有时还可以看见这种开黄花的攀缘植物攀附在棕榈树树干上。丝瓜的果实，除了用以制作丝瓜筋外，加上咖喱粉后还可以食用。
